This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Manage a portfolio of litigation, arbitration, pre-litigation disputes, and third-party claims independently, from intake to resolution.
• Formulate legal strategies and defense positions, which includes reviewing pleadings, preparing for depositions, and directing case execution.
• Oversee and guide outside counsel to guarantee high-quality, cost-efficient representation that aligns with business goals.
• Conduct and supervise internal investigations concerning regulatory, compliance, or operational matters.
• Collaborate with business and compliance teams to pinpoint emerging risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies informed by litigation trends.
• Review and address escalated consumer complaints, including those directed to regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and compliant responses.
• Work with operational teams to create and sustain scalable complaint management processes, procedures, and response frameworks.
• Analyze trends and root causes of complaints, partnering cross-functionally to implement preventative measures and reduce legal exposure.
• Act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, offering clear and practical legal guidance.
• Foster alignment between legal, compliance, and business teams to enhance risk management practices.
• Advocate for ongoing process improvements while contributing to a culture of accountability, integrity, and operational excellence.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
• Over 5 years of experience in consumer financial services litigation, which may include a mix of law firm and in-house experience.
• In-depth knowledge of federal and state consumer protection laws and financial services regulations.
• Preferred experience in consumer lending and/or bank sponsorship programs.
• Proven capability to independently manage complex litigation matters while balancing legal risks and business objectives.
• Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic financial services or fintech environment.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to clarify complex legal concepts into actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
• Data-driven perspective, capable of identifying trends in litigation and complaints to develop preventative strategies.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a keen attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, demonstrating effective cross-functional collaboration.
• Display an ownership mentality, capable of driving initiatives forward and influencing legal outcomes.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
