Corporate Controller

Posted 9 hours ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the comprehensive management of the first-year GAAS audit: guide the team in addressing historical balances, prepare audit-ready opening balances and supporting schedules, and ensure the engagement achieves a clean opinion on schedule, maintaining a PCAOB-readiness perspective throughout.

• Take responsibility for the monthly and quarterly closing calendar across the multi-entity framework: enforce strict timeline adherence, manage multi-currency consolidation and intercompany eliminations, and guarantee that each sub-function (Treasury, Payroll, AP/AR, FinOps) provides accounting-ready inputs prior to the close, rather than after.

• Act as the definitive authority on U.S. GAAP within the company: create and maintain technical accounting memos that reference relevant ASC guidance, adopt defensible positions during audits, and formalize accounting policies and procedures across the organization.

• Manage equity and stock-compensation accounting (cap table, ASC 718) along with corresponding disclosures; collaborate on PFIC reporting for U.S. investors in foreign structures, working with the Tax Director and external tax consultants to deliver PFIC Annual Information Statements and QEF support punctually.

• Utilize Claude to draft and refine technical accounting memos, develop automated closing workflows with organized reminders and sub-function checklists, and ensure that outputs from Treasury, Payroll, AP/AR, and FinOps are ready for accounting before the close, minimizing manual follow-ups and streamlining the closing cycle.

• Create and sustain NetSuite workflows, month-end close automation, and reconciliation automation in collaboration with FinOps; implement straightforward automations directly while guiding the team on more intricate integrations.

• Supervise external auditors and advisors (Big 4 or national firms) to ensure scope, quality, and timelines: you control their schedule, not vice versa.

• Prepare and present board reporting packages; manage external auditor and advisory relationships as the appointed PAO-track leader.

• Lead and nurture the accounting team: establish benchmarks for technical accuracy, operational discipline, and audit-ready deliverables, and propel the team forward rather than merely reviewing their results.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active U.S. CPA license is essential: this position serves as the designated Principal Accounting Officer track for the organization.

• A foundation in audit from a Big 4 or national firm, complemented by industry controllership experience within a complex, multi-entity environment: you have personally directed a first-year or initial audit, including leading a team through historical remediation to achieve a clean opinion, not merely participated in one.

• In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP concerning equity and stock-compensation accounting (ASC 718), multi-entity consolidations, revenue recognition, and impairment/fair value, sufficient to compose and defend technical memos under both audit and board scrutiny.

• Proven capability to manage external auditors and advisors to meet firm deadlines: evidence that you have led a Big 4 or national firm engagement rather than adjusting to the firm's pace.

• Established people leadership skills within a senior accounting team: you define the direction, uphold the standard, and foster the development of your team. You are sufficiently involved in the work to review, unblock, and make critical decisions, but you do not execute the tasks for the team.

• Practical experience with NetSuite (workflow configuration, close automation, reconciliation automation) and a history of integrating financial tools to enhance closing efficiency.

• Demonstrated success in utilizing AI tools (Claude, Cursor, or similar) to draft technical accounting memos, create automated closing workflows, and validate outputs from sub-functions: daily, practical use of AI in this role is a baseline expectation, not a learning opportunity.
