Controller, Client Accounting Services – Multi-Client Portfolio

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the accounting operations for Eightx’s collection of bookkeeping and Fractional CFO clients.

• Take ownership of the monthly closing process across the client portfolio, ensuring that financial records are accurately finalized within two to ten business days following month-end.

• Review and approve close files, reconciliations, and working documents.

• Maintain and implement audit-ready standards for working papers and balance sheet accounts.

• Record accruals for anticipated but unrecorded expenses utilizing professional judgment.

• Examine P&L variances and investigate any unusual balances or off-trend items.

• Collaborate with tax accountants and CPA firms on year-end adjusting entries.

• Supervise weekly bookkeeping quality and provide hands-on assistance when necessary.

• Design, create, and modify charts of accounts utilizing Xero, QuickBooks Online, and other systems.

• Manage multi-currency accounting, foreign exchange revaluations, unrealized gains/losses, and cross-currency reconciliations.

• Reconcile Shopify, Amazon, and other eCommerce integrations with the general ledger.

• Oversee accounts receivable and payable, manual journals, credit memos, inventory reconciliations, and year-end inventory adjustments.

• Maintain consolidated budget and actuals versus budget reporting templates.

• Act as the primary accounting contact for assigned clients and Fractional CFOs.

• Address client inquiries and take part in client calls, preparing summary notes and action items.

• Communicate outstanding items, open questions, and risks to clients, CFOs, and internal teams.

• Ensure the timely delivery of financial reports, working documents, and supporting schedules.

• Keep regulatory filings current, including sales tax, payroll, and corporate filings.

• Research tax obligations and escalate findings as necessary.

• Prepare and present weekly flash reports and monthly financial packages.

• Review the work of bookkeepers and accountants, provide feedback, mentor team members, and promote process enhancements.

• Participate in team L10 meetings and highlight any blockers.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting.

• At least 2 years in a Controller, Senior, or comparable review/oversight role.

• Strong proficiency in Xero.

• Experience with QuickBooks Online is strongly preferred.

• Proven experience with eCommerce accounting, including Shopify, Amazon Seller/Vendor, and multi-currency settings.

• Robust understanding of accrual-basis accounting, encompassing prepaids, accruals, deferred revenue, and foreign exchange revaluation.

• A record of reviewing the work of others and ensuring close quality and financial accuracy.

• Ability to identify and clarify financial discrepancies using independent judgment and structured reasoning.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; adept at direct client correspondence.

• Self-driven and highly organized, with the capacity to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and team members simultaneously.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving processes and occasional uncertainty.

• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.

• Available to work from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST or 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility for client needs.

• CPA or CA qualification (India, US, Canada, or UK) is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with Hubdoc, Dext, or Rippling.

• Previous experience in public practice or audit.
