This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the entire accounting function, which encompasses the monthly close process, general ledger management, reconciliations, financial reporting, consolidation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, and technical accounting.
• Rapidly evaluate the current status of the function, team dynamics, systems, ongoing projects, and potential risks, while pinpointing immediate opportunities to enhance accuracy, accountability, and efficiency.
• Ensure that audits, covenant reporting, reconciliations, tax-related initiatives, and other essential external deliverables are fully up-to-date.
• Create a dependable and well-managed closing process, complete with defined timelines, ownership, documentation, and reporting standards.
• Foster relationships with external auditors, accountants, tax advisors, and other stakeholders, acting as Starface’s primary expert in accounting and point of accountability.
• Develop and implement a feasible roadmap aimed at enhancing accounting processes, controls, systems, documentation, and team structure.
• Manage accounting systems and tools, including NetSuite, and collaborate with Operations and Systems to ensure that cross-functional decisions facilitate accurate and efficient financial processes.
• Assess the accounting team’s structure, capabilities, and capacity, nurture existing talent, and suggest future hiring priorities.
• Lead and mentor the accounting team, setting clear expectations, establishing strong operational rhythms, and providing opportunities for professional growth.
• Work closely with the SVP of Finance on priorities, risks, decisions, and communication with executive leadership and the Board.
• Enhance Starface’s preparation for future financing, investment, diligence, or M&A activities by ensuring our accounting records, controls, reporting, and documentation can withstand heightened scrutiny.
• Identify issues early, communicate them effectively, and propose practical recommendations and solutions.
• Strike a balance between robust controls and financial discipline while maintaining the speed and agility required in a rapidly growing business.
• You possess significant progressive accounting experience, preferably including a role as a Controller or Head of Accounting.
• You have successfully led or significantly enhanced an accounting function within a growing, evolving, or operationally complex organization.
• You have experience in consumer products, retail, beauty, apparel, food and beverage, or another inventory-driven business.
• You have supported a financing, investment, acquisition, sale process, or other major transaction and understand the necessary level of rigor, responsiveness, and documentation.
• You have in-depth knowledge of inventory accounting, revenue recognition, accruals, financial reporting, internal controls, and U.S. GAAP.
• You possess substantial experience with NetSuite and understand the intersection of accounting systems, operational systems, and business processes.
• You have effectively led external audits and can engage with auditors and advisors confidently and constructively.
• You have navigated accounting backlogs and challenges associated with a high-growth, fast-paced business.
• You can differentiate between essential controls and processes that can be appropriately streamlined.
• You can operate strategically while remaining closely involved in the work to identify issues, support your team, and advance priorities.
• You are comfortable taking swift ownership, making informed decisions with incomplete information, and enhancing existing systems rather than waiting for ideal circumstances.
• You are a strong leader who can assess talent, develop team members, and thoughtfully build an accounting organization for the future.
• You communicate proactively and understand how to keep senior leadership informed about progress, risks, trade-offs, and recommended next steps.
• You are collaborative, low-ego, and capable of building trust across Finance, Operations, Systems, and the wider organization.
• You are located in the Eastern or Central time zone or can maintain significant working-hour overlap with teams and partners across the U.S. and U.K.
• A CPA designation and experience with a private equity-backed company are strongly preferred.
