This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of key processes such as month-end close, reconciliations, controls, and reporting.
• Create scalable accounting policies and workflows.
• Guide the shift from an outsourced accounting function to a fully in-house model.
• Assess and choose a contemporary ERP system (NetSuite, Intacct, Rillit, etc.) in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
• Manage the configuration, design of the chart of accounts, integrations, and process development.
• Establish a robust, audit-ready financial framework from day one.
• Lead GAAP-compliant reporting and make informed technical accounting decisions.
• Prepare Cartwheel for its initial (or subsequent) external audit.
• Oversee documentation, controls, and coordination with auditors and internal teams.
• Recruit a Staff Accountant shortly after the onboarding process.
• Offer mentorship, clarity, and professional development as the team expands.
• Collaborate with BizOps and Data to link financial reporting with operational metrics (RCM, state P&L, revenue quality).
• Partner with RCM and Health Plan Ops on payer dynamics, collections, and revenue integrity.
• Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and board reporting.
• You possess a solid foundation in GAAP and have a keen interest in modern tools and automation (including AI), eager to utilize technology for enhancing accounting efficiency and insights.
• You have managed or led an external audit from start to finish (planning, PBC coordination, auditor management, remediation), and are confident in audit-ready settings.
• You have played a significant role in the selection and implementation of ERP systems, covering requirements gathering, system configuration, chart of accounts design, testing, and post-go-live operations.
• You have developed or notably scaled accounting processes and workflows, adopting a builder’s mindset to create structure in previously unorganized environments.
• You have experience in healthcare or payer-intensive settings (such as behavioral health, Medicaid, fee-for-service, or similar), and understand the complexities of bad debt, reimbursement, and revenue cycle management.
• You link everyday accounting operations to larger business outcomes and know how to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced atmosphere.
• You communicate effectively with non-financial partners, simplifying complex financial topics into understandable insights and fostering trust across teams.
• You have hired, managed, or mentored accounting professionals and understand how to nurture talent while upholding high standards for quality.
• You excel in early-stage, uncertain environments, enjoy hands-on work, and can advance tasks without a perfect playbook.
