This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the monthly close process from start to finish, aiming for a 5-day, fully reconciled, audit-ready close, ensuring nothing remains outstanding for over 30 days.
• Spearhead the transition from a mixed cash/accrual basis to a complete US GAAP accrual method across various functions, including auctions, fixed-price exchanges, lending, cash advances, and partner revenue.
• Manage the chart of accounts and the revenue recognition policy.
• Reconcile GL entries with source-of-truth data from the data warehouse, such as Snowflake, and integrate it into QuickBooks or a future ERP system.
• Act as the main liaison for external auditors, overseeing the PBC list, conducting walkthroughs, and resolving open items.
• Supervise the tax compliance calendar, which encompasses corporate and fund-level returns, K-1s, state and local filings, 1099s, and the annual R&D credit study, collaborating with external tax advisors.
• Oversee covenant and borrowing-base reporting for the asset-backed credit facility and collaborate with the Head of Finance on lender compliance.
• Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, fixed assets, expenditure controls, corporate cards, and vendor management.
• Administer the outsourced accounting provider while gradually transitioning the work in-house.
• Develop and establish Alt’s accounting function from the ground up, creating policies, checklists, controls, and expanding a small team as volume increases.
• Report directly to the Head of Finance.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including direct controllership experience in the industry.
• Extensive knowledge of US GAAP and practical experience in converting cash or mixed-basis accounting to a full accrual basis.
• Demonstrated ability to manage an external audit relationship, including PBC lists, walkthroughs, sample testing, and communication with auditors.
• Experience in a marketplace, fintech, or lending setting.
• Familiarity with principal-vs-agent revenue issues and reserve/receivable accounting.
• Proficient with QuickBooks, a modern spend management platform like Ramp, and an HRIS system such as Rippling.
• SQL/BI skills adequate for reconciling GL entries with source data; experience integrating a data warehouse with an accounting system is preferred.
• Experience in managing an outsourced, fractional, or offshore accounting team.
• Nice to have: experience in asset-backed lending or covenant/borrowing-base reporting.
