
Controller, Accounting Operations β FP&A

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
β’ Take charge of daily accounting operations encompassing payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end close, and reporting workflows.
β’ Spearhead the closing process with an emphasis on efficiency, accuracy, reviewability, and repeatability.
β’ Ensure maintenance of accurate financial records that facilitate leadership reporting, board reporting, audit readiness, and future lender-related data requests.
β’ Supervise and mentor one direct report in a senior accountant/accounting specialist role.
β’ Develop and enhance financial reporting packages to allow leadership to review results sooner, identify insights more rapidly, and make informed decisions.
β’ Assist in monthly variance analysis, fluctuation analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning initiatives.
β’ Aid in preparing operational finance inputs for board reporting, annual budgeting, sponsor-backed reporting, audit readiness, and valuation-related requirements.
β’ Evaluate the existing finance and accounting technology stack and contribute to decisions regarding automation, upgrades, or replacements over time.
β’ Support the integration of accounting operations for a newly acquired business line currently depending on informal or part-time bookkeeping assistance.
β’ Robust Controller-level experience managing accounting operations in a smaller or mid-sized enterprise where finance and accounting roles are not overly segmented.
β’ Comfortable assuming accountability for the general ledger, closing processes, reporting accuracy, and maintaining discipline in accounting procedures.
β’ Significant exposure to FP&A, forecasting, variance analysis, budgeting, or board reporting, even if your primary expertise lies in accounting.
β’ Experience in a sponsor-backed, PE-backed, VC-backed, or similarly high-accountability environment where speed, reporting quality, and leadership visibility are crucial.
β’ Familiarity with professional services, project-based accounting, fixed-price services revenue, or other operationally complex revenue models.
β’ Experience supporting a business that offers a blend of services and subscription-style revenue, even if project-based accounting has been the more intricate aspect of your experience.
β’ Involvement in acquisition integration efforts or possess strong related experience in organizing new entities, business lines, systems, and reporting workflows.
β’ Comfortable collaborating directly with senior finance leadership and serving as a dependable resource for improved reporting, analysis, and operational cadence.
