This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• Edit and proofread all assignments from the Contextual Content team, ensuring finalized versions are ready for publication.
• Work alongside writers to enhance and finalize assignments.
• Contribute original content to the content pipeline while managing primary editing tasks.
• Ensure all assignments adhere to style guidelines, quality and tone standards, as well as departmental goals and audience-awareness expectations.
• Conduct fact-checking for names, dates, and other pertinent details.
• Perform plagiarism checks on submitted work.
• Offer training, feedback, and support to writers, including the onboarding of new team members.
• Collaborate with the Contextual Content team and Program Manager to oversee workflows, monitor deadlines, and execute the editorial roadmap.
• Provide updates and reports on status to the Program Manager.
• Address challenging situations to achieve positive outcomes.
• Proactively identify potential issues and manage risks related to timelines and stakeholder expectations.
• A degree in communications, journalism, English, history, or a related discipline is preferred.
• At least 2+ years of professional editing or writing experience required.
• Experience in leading or managing a group of contributors is preferred.
• Exceptional writing and proofreading/editing capabilities.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in effectively utilizing AI tools within the editorial process.
• A nuanced understanding of balancing AI assistance without supplanting human intuition and accuracy.
• Capability to interpret and apply guidelines and standards.
• Ability to follow a style guide and maintain the required tone.
• Strong internet research skills.
• Competence in managing and prioritizing multiple tasks concurrently.
• A self-starter with the motivation and energy to meet goals under tight deadlines.
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• A strong, demonstrated background in history or family history research.
• Familiarity with English writing, grammar, and editing conventions outside the US, such as in Canada, Australia, and the UK/Ireland, is beneficial.
• Experience or knowledge in image curation is a significant advantage.
