
Conciliation Court Referee – Per Diem

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Lead general conciliation calendars and debt collection calendars consisting of 12 to 50 cases during each half-day session.
• Review court calendars, case filings, and associated materials prior to scheduled hearings.
• Listen to and assess testimony, claims, and evidence presented by parties, witnesses, and expert consultants.
• Evaluate whether claims are substantiated by the facts and relevant laws.
• Make determinations on the admissibility of evidence and manage the orderly presentation of testimonies and proceedings.
• Draft orders and related documents in accordance with the standards of the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
• Conduct legal research as needed to aid in judicial decision-making.
• Utilize significant discretion and independent judgment while performing duties in line with applicable state statutes.
• Uphold order, decorum, and professionalism throughout all proceedings.
• Must reside in Minnesota.
• Must hold a valid attorney's license in the State of Minnesota.
• Must have a minimum of five years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Must be in good standing with the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility board and have no disciplinary actions within the last five years.
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
• Should not have a client base that could lead to frequent conflicts in the types of cases typically heard in the conciliation court.
