Compliance Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the AML/BSA compliance program for U.S. payments products, which includes managing policies, procedures, and internal controls.

• Create and update compliance policies that address data privacy regulations, AML/KYC obligations, and sanctions screening, ensuring that documentation remains current as regulations evolve.

• Supervise transaction monitoring for payment flows; oversee alert reviews, investigations, and decisions related to SAR filings.

• Manage sanctions/OFAC screening for payment transactions, including escalation processes and handling blocked transactions, as well as monitoring PEP and adverse media, and managing KYC cases by developing SOPs and systems for these case types.

• Ensure continuous compliance with payment network and scheme regulations (e.g., Visa, Mastercard, ACH/NACHA) pertinent to our products.

• Serve as the compliance partner embedded within Product and Engineering teams on new payment features — reviewing designs prior to launch and identifying regulatory risks in advance.

• Cultivate relationships and communication channels with state regulators, examiners, and banking/card-issuing partners.

• Assist in external audits and regulatory examinations, which includes gathering evidence and tracking remediation efforts.

• Keep abreast of the regulatory environment for U.S. payments and cryptocurrency, translating changes into updates for the compliance program.

• Provide compliance training and guidance to the payments team and other internal stakeholders.

• Oversee compliance with state money transmitter licensing (MTL) requirements — preparing for examinations, renewing licenses, and fulfilling reporting obligations across applicable states.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in compliance, with a significant focus on U.S. payments compliance, particularly in BSA/AML, sanctions, and/or money transmission licensing.

• Proven experience working with a money services business (MSB), payments company, fintech, bank, or crypto/digital asset organization.

• Solid understanding of BSA/AML requirements, OFAC sanctions regulations, state money transmission laws, and card network / ACH rules.

• Experience managing relationships with regulators or examiners, including direct support during examinations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of pre-authorization and fraud risk management practices at a payment service provider.

• Ability to operate as a generalist and take ownership of a program from start to finish, rather than focusing on a narrow aspect.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills — you will represent compliance directly to regulators, auditors, and partners.
