Community Organizer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine.

📋 Description

• Conducting weekly recruitment for new MPA members.

• Creating local activities, training sessions, and committees that align with similar initiatives in other regions and with organizational campaigns, offering meaningful volunteer opportunities for MPA members.

• Recognizing leadership potential among MPA volunteers and developing work plans that facilitate new skills and leadership development.

• Mobilizing MPA members for impactful actions at both state and national levels.

• Recruiting, developing, and supporting members of the Maine Small Business Coalition.

• Engaging in weekly small-dollar fundraising efforts.

• An understanding of the challenges faced by residents of Maine.

• Proven ability to cultivate relationships built on trust and mutual respect, inspiring individuals to take action.

• A problem-solving mindset with an aptitude for teamwork.

• Capability to navigate challenges, prioritize tasks, and advance multiple projects simultaneously.

• Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and occasional weekends, and to travel throughout the state.

• Personal experience with injustice (of any kind) that fuels a desire for progressive social change (helpful but not mandatory).

• Experience in door-to-door organizing or in establishing rapport with the public (via street interactions, phone communication, home visits, customer service, etc.) (helpful but not mandatory).

• Conversational proficiency in Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, or Somali (helpful but not mandatory).

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (helpful but not mandatory).

• At least one year of experience in community organizing or community-building activities (helpful but not mandatory).
