This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more states.
• Establish and oversee dedicated Japanese channels on our Discord server from the ground up, including the configuration of channels, roles, bots, and moderation.
• Create a growth strategy for the Japanese community aimed at MMO players, guild leaders, and content creators.
• Identify, connect with, and cultivate relationships with Japanese YouTubers, streamers, and content creators who focus on MMOs, pixel art games, or cozy games.
• Interact with Japanese gaming communities across platforms such as Twitter/X (where Japanese gaming Twitter is substantial), Niconico, YouTube, and 5ch/game forums.
• Collaborate with Japanese MMO guilds to introduce organized groups into Soulbound, while understanding the distinctions between JP guild culture and Western guild culture to leverage these differences.
• Localize community announcements, patch notes, and event communications with a focus on native-level writing that resonates with a Japanese audience, avoiding machine translation.
• Organize community events that are tailored to Japanese player culture, such as housing contests, guild showcases, and seasonal events that resonate locally.
• Generate weekly reports regarding Japanese community sentiment, growth metrics, content creator pipeline, and cultural insights relevant to the team.
• Serve as the cultural advisor to the broader team on all related matters, including what resonates with the audience, what may not, and how to prevent potential missteps.
• Collaborate with our Community Director on cross-community events and ensure consistent messaging.
• Native-level proficiency in Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) is essential. You will be responsible for writing community posts, responding to players, and negotiating with creators in Japanese.
• Fluent in English with a minimum of professional working proficiency to communicate effectively with the UK-based team.
• Extensive personal experience with MMOs, including a serious commitment to playing them, allowing for an understanding of why players remain engaged for years.
• Familiarity with the Japanese gaming content creator landscape, including knowledge of major gaming YouTubers, the role of VTubers, and which streamers cover MMOs versus action games.
• Experience within Japanese online communities, including Discord JP servers, the Twitter JP gaming community, Niconico, and 5ch gaming boards.
• Understanding of Japanese guild culture in MMOs, specifically how Japanese Free Companies, Linkshells, and guilds differ in their recruitment, organization, and communication compared to Western guilds.
• Self-motivated individual who identifies opportunities to promote Soulbound to a Japanese audience and takes initiative without prompting.

• Prior community management experience at a game studio, particularly for a Western game launching in Japan.
• Existing relationships with Japanese gaming content creators.
• Knowledge of Japan's content creator agency landscape.
• Extensive experience playing FFXIV, PSO2, Dragon Quest X, or other MMOs heavily focused on the Japanese market.
• Ability to create short-form video content in Japanese.
• Experience in localizing gaming content, focusing on cultural localization rather than mere translation.
