• Design and implement community engagement strategies that foster ICA connections with First Nation, Inuit, and Metis communities throughout so-called Canada;
• Collect narratives, insights, and feedback from First Nation, Inuit, and Metis communities to shape ICA programming by conducting surveys, questionnaires, interviews, webinars, and community gatherings;
• Collaborate closely with the campaign, communications, and program teams to create strategies, processes, tools, and resources that effectively address the needs of frontline communities;
• Partner with the communications team to amplify frontline community stories and calls to action through ICA newsletters, website, and social media;
• Lead and assist in the organization of special events, including community gatherings, donor and volunteer appreciation events, and various fundraising initiatives;
• Support the engagement of ICA’s internal network, which includes ICA staff, the National Steering Committee, Board of Directors, and Youth Leadership Council;
• Participate in external events to promote ICA programming to First Nation, Inuit, and Metis community members, as well as broader community partners and funders;
• Develop and maintain ICA’s contact lists using best practices to enhance ICA program promotion and delivery;
• Cultivate new and existing relationships with ICA partners, including frontline communities;
• Keep a calendar of outreach activities, such as community events, workshops, appearances, and other engagement opportunities to promote ICA and establish strategic relationships;
• Assist with recruitment strategies for ICA’s staffing and human resources needs;
• Other assigned responsibilities.
• Over 5 years of experience in community organizing and partnership development
• Established community relationships that are pertinent for supporting Indigenous-led climate initiatives across so-called Canada
• Experience in supervising staff and contractors
• Proven experience in planning and hosting community gatherings
• Strong understanding of budgets, including the ability to build, track, and report on expenses
• Proficient in computer use and navigating online software and communication systems such as Zoom, Slack, Signal, Google Suite, Asana, and CRM platforms
• Demonstrated success in creating and executing effective strategies for community engagement and network development
• Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations and frameworks that challenge systems of colonization, white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism
• Comprehensive knowledge of climate and environmental websites, social media platforms, newsletters, listservs, etc.
• Comfortable forming new relationships and navigating the diverse opinions and tensions that may arise within a community
• Familiarity with the principles of anti-oppression and the creation of inclusive spaces
• Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally
• Membership in an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language is a plus
• Access to a working computer and reliable internet connectivity is essential for this position.
