πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ The Communications Specialist/Technical Writer is responsible for planning, writing, and editing content intended for both internal and external audiences to ensure SCPO leadership and stakeholders are updated on program developments, initiatives, and news.

β€’ This role involves drafting executive correspondence, creating briefings, developing talking points, and scripting for SCPO leadership; formulating communication plans and strategies to bolster program milestones, events, and cross-team initiatives; as well as researching, writing, and editing newsletters, fact sheets, frequently asked questions (FAQs), reports, and web content.

β€’ The position guarantees that all content adheres to the relevant VA documentation standards, including the VA Documentation Style Guide, plain language requirements, and Section 508 accessibility standards.

β€’ Additionally, the Communications Specialist/Technical Writer collects, analyzes, and composes technical information necessary for user manuals, training materials, installation and administrator guides, proposals, reports, and other program deliverables created in support of SCPO's program, data, budget, and automation initiatives.

β€’ The incumbent is also responsible for editing functional descriptions, system specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other technical documents to ensure their accuracy, consistency, and appropriate use of technical or healthcare terminology, translating complex technical and clinical information into clear, comprehensible content for both technical and non-technical SCPO stakeholders.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ A Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Technical Writing, or a related field is required.

β€’ A minimum of 4 years of experience in communications, technical writing, or editing, preferably in support of federal or healthcare programs, is necessary for developing communications plans and strategies that enhance program messaging, events, and stakeholder engagement.

β€’ Proven experience in writing and editing various materials such as reports, newsletters, briefings, fact sheets, training materials, user manuals, and guidebooks is essential.

β€’ Strong proficiency with computer systems and the Microsoft Office Suite is required.

β€’ A capable self-starter with a keen attention to detail, who can manage multiple writing and editing assignments simultaneously, is preferred.
