This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Embody the core principles of Signal Energy to ensure preferred selection by our clients through continuous improvement of processes, products, and services, thereby consistently meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
• Effectively communicate with a diverse range of individuals, including colleagues from all departments at Signal, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
• Examine commissioning requirements outlined in upstream contract language from Signal's clients for any problematic stipulations and ensure alignment with Signal's internal commissioning standards.
• Collaborate with estimating and project management teams to confirm that commissioning requirements are adequately scheduled and budgeted at the proposal stage.
• Act as the commissioning subject matter expert for Signal, providing support to Project Engineers, Project Managers, and other team members.
• Clearly and effectively communicate Signal's commissioning practices to external parties, including clients, AHJs, and subcontractors.
• Continuously develop and maintain commissioning documentation, including a commissioning plan template and various commissioning forms.
• Integrate commissioning procedures and documentation with Procore to enhance process efficiency and ensure proper archival of commissioning documentation.
• Review, rectify, and respond to comments from Owners regarding commissioning matters.
• Facilitate daily commissioning meetings with owners, vendors, subcontractors, and other relevant parties.
• Prepare and approve checklists for commissioning tests.
• Coordinate with the Safety team to prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for energized tasks.
• Review projected commissioning schedules in collaboration with Project Managers.
• Assist in developing project-specific commissioning plans.
• Support project teams in identifying appropriate subcontractors for commissioning activities.
• Interface and coordinate with suppliers, which includes reviewing test plans, bills of materials, factory testing, and schedule collaboration during commissioning.
• Collaborate with Project Engineers and commissioning Superintendents to review all commissioning documentation submitted by subcontractors and resolve any issues.
• Work alongside project engineers and commissioning Superintendents to ensure that each project's commissioning requirements are fulfilled and that all commissioning activities and test results are accurately documented.
• Collaborate with quality control to facilitate a smooth transition from quality assurance to commissioning.
• Manage field commissioning Superintendents.
• Assist Construction Managers and Project Managers in overseeing subcontractors with commissioning scope to ensure timely completion of commissioning tasks.
• Work with Performance Engineering to transition projects from commissioning to performance testing.
• Travel to sites as needed to directly manage commissioning activities when necessary.
• Provide guidance to Construction Managers, field commissioning staff, or subcontractors in troubleshooting various equipment, including inverters, trackers, SCADA, combiner boxes, transformers, communications systems, POA, meteorological stations, soiling stations, control building alarms, substations, and ground faults.
• Become a Subject Matter Expert on the interconnection processes for various Utilities and ISOs.
• Assist project teams in achieving ISO and Utility milestones where necessary (e.g., CAISO buckets, ERCOT interconnection, etc.).
• Support and coordinate utility and ISO tests (such as Power Factor, Relay Testing, Telemetry) and PPC tests (including AVR, PFR, Curtailment, etc.).
• Monitor construction progress as it pertains to the critical path for commissioning.
• A bachelor's degree in a technical field (engineering, physics, math, statistics, renewables, or related disciplines) is preferred, but not mandatory.
• A minimum of 7+ years of professional experience.
• At least 3+ years of experience specifically in solar commissioning.
• Strong preference for experience in operations and construction within the solar industry.
• Familiarity with and understanding of NETA ATS.
• Knowledge and expertise in PV solar equipment, including PV modules, combiner boxes, solar trackers, inverters, DAS/SCADA equipment, communications hardware, meteorological sensors, etc.
• Understanding of ISO and Utility interconnection processes is advantageous.
• Proficient knowledge of PV-specific testing and equipment, including IV curve tracing, VOC testing, and DC operating current checks.
• Familiarity with handheld and drone thermal imaging.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E and safe electrical work practices.
• Required software skills: Microsoft Office, Cloud storage solutions (Box, Dropbox, OneDrive), Bluebeam Revu, Excel, and testing tools software.
