This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +3 more states.
• The Centralized Commercial Credit Officer is accountable for approving loans related to business purposes and commercial real estate within established business parameters.
• Reviews and assesses the appropriate risk associated with business loan applications, including a thorough analysis of the borrower's business, management, financial status, and operations.
• Evaluates financial statements and produces independent written credit evaluations for the most intricate business loans and relationships.
• Analysis will reveal the key strengths and weaknesses of the specific borrower, the loan structure, and will culminate in either the approval or decline of the loan.
• Utilizes experience and judgment to assess the risk level within a request and structures loan terms that cater to the borrower’s requirements while complying with AUB’s risk and credit policies.
• Signature loan approvals for business relationships are determined based on expertise, experience, and business necessity; collaborates closely with Centralized Credit Management for approvals that exceed personal loan authority.
• Works in partnership with sales and credit colleagues to meet deadlines on business loan applications.
• Responsible for managing an assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, proactively defining client credit solutions, identifying issues, and ensuring follow-through for remediation.
• Other portfolio responsibilities include, but are not limited to: timely and accurate risk rating of clients based on both internal and external data; consideration and approval of short-term extensions and ensuring proper documentation during reviews.
• Strategically collaborates with relationship managers on risk management concerns and/or loan structuring as needed or deemed appropriate.
• Partners with Wholesale and Business Banking relationship managers and line management to ensure quality goals for the business banking loan portfolio are achieved.
• May mentor less experienced Centralized Credit Officers on credit risk evaluation, loan decisions, and additional credit-related topics.
• May assist in credit training and the development of other staff members.
• Reviews loan packages and provides approval concurrence for other Credit Officers as required.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legal and regulatory requirements through the successful completion of compliance and regulatory training, as well as attendance at all mandatory training activities.
• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field.
• Seven or more years of experience in business banking/commercial banking and/or a credit administration role that involved underwriting and assessing credit requests.
• Prior loan approval authority is strongly preferred.
• Results-driven and decisive.
• Confident in knowledge and experience; able to clearly convey reasons for loan approvals and declines.
• Precision and attention to detail are essential.
• Ability to manage confidential information with the highest level of discretion.
• Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
• Strong consultative abilities, including the capacity to ask critical questions to uncover opportunities.
• Proficient in PC usage, including word processing and spreadsheet software, and familiar with system and user-generated formulas, macros, charts, and tables.
• Strong understanding of loan documentation, including documents needed to secure a lien on various types of collateral; documents signed by the client; identifying associated risks, and collaborating with Legal as necessary.
