• Develop the commercial legal framework that enables finmid to contract at the pace of its product releases.
• Serve as the primary legal liaison for the commercial and product teams.
• Operate behind every platform, borrower, and supplier agreement.
• Design the systems that ensure this process is repeatable.
• Manage finmid's contract portfolio comprehensively for platform-facing, borrower-facing, and supplier-facing agreements.
• Negotiate autonomously with counterparties.
• Collaborate with product leads during the development of new features, converting the roadmap into legal frameworks.
• Establish the operational framework for commercial legal matters at finmid.
• Oversee the negotiation of third-party supplier contracts.
• Ensure that our commercial documents comply with regulatory standards.
• Graduate from a prestigious EU, UK, or US law school, qualified or qualifying in a pertinent jurisdiction.
• A minimum of one year of experience in Big Law or in-house at a technology company, fintech, SaaS provider, or financial institution. The nature of your experience is more significant than the duration.
• Hands-on experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. You should be prepared to engage in redline discussions and advocate for substantive issues.
• Preferred experience in finance, regulated products, or environments where commercial contracting aligns with supervisory expectations.
• You possess a systems-oriented mindset. When faced with recurring contract challenges, your instinct is to create a workflow that addresses the issue rather than drafting solutions individually.
• You think algorithmically. You can break down a contracting process into decision trees, branching logic, and checkpoints, and articulate this structure to a product manager or engineer without loss of clarity.
• You approach contracts as a product. You recognize that a well-crafted agreement is a reusable asset, that clause libraries are foundational infrastructure, and that the difference between a function managing 50 deals quarterly versus 500 is largely a matter of process design.
• You have a practical curiosity about AI tools and are willing to engage with them directly. Over time, you will cultivate a realistic perspective on where current legal AI effectively enhances work and where it inadvertently introduces new risks.
• You maintain legal accuracy while being commercially sensible. You know which legal positions are worth defending and which are merely burdensome to the deal.
• You write with clarity: clauses, playbooks, internal guidance, and product specifications that are precise, ready for implementation, and concise enough to encourage readership.
• You are comfortable collaborating across functions with product and engineering teams. While coding skills aren't required, you should feel at ease in a Linear ticket, design review, or roadmap discussion.
• You relish the opportunity to build from the ground up. The initial state of the function should represent an opportunity for you rather than a challenge.
• Throughout, you maintain a high level of quality in your outputs and serve as a reliable advisor to your internal colleagues.
• An early commercial legal position with direct interaction with product, engineering, commercial teams, and the General Counsel across various European jurisdictions, providing broad exposure to the actual construction, sale, and contracting of a regulated financial product, rather than a limited perspective.
• We consider ourselves “distributed first” (i.e., work from anywhere) but also offer a beautiful office in Berlin for those who prefer it.
• We are adaptable and provide whatever you need to maximize your productivity.
• Home office allowance.
• 30 days of vacation.
• Significant equity opportunities.
• An open-minded and transparent culture that includes regular gatherings (e.g., All Hands, Brown Bag Lunch, Offsites).
