This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take full ownership of commercial contracting: Structure, draft, negotiate, and provide advice on a comprehensive array of agreements essential for business operations, including customer contracts, partnerships (including white-label), vendor and SaaS agreements, and NDAs; supported by a Contracts Manager who will manage a portfolio of high-volume and routine agreements.
• Serve as the reliable advisor to the business: Act as the responsive, go-to resource that offers clear, practical guidance and facilitates the completion of deals.
• Identify issues and engage the right experts: Be adept at recognizing when a deal presents questions beyond commercial aspects, such as ERISA and fiduciary matters, investment advising, privacy and financial data, securities, employment, consumer marketing, or product-related concerns, and involve the appropriate expert at the right time while maintaining ownership and driving the deal to closure.
• Enhance efficiency and scalability of the function: Develop and implement the strategy for scaling the function, which includes leading our Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) implementation, utilizing AI and other tools, and creating templates, playbooks, and self-service options that enable the business to operate swiftly.
• Assist with new and growing products: Collaborate with Product Counsel to provide guidance on the commercial aspects and develop terms of use and other essential commercial documentation required for new products and features.
• Expand responsibilities beyond commercial: Undertake corporate governance and additional projects as required by the team.
• Over 7 years of legal experience, including significant in-house tenure at a high-growth, fast-paced company, preferably one that has experienced rapid scaling.
• A robust background in commercial contracting, whether you have led a function or been part of a larger, sophisticated team, with experience in drafting and negotiating a wide range of B2B and SaaS agreements.
• Proven ability to advise non-legal business teams in real time and translate legal conclusions into practical advice.
• Extensive expertise in contracting, particularly in IP and technology licensing, SaaS terms, and data rights.
• Must be admitted to the bar and in good standing, or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., registered in-house status) in any state.
• In-house experience in fintech or another highly regulated industry is a plus.
• Experience at a large, sophisticated startup or technology firm recognized for its strong legal practices is advantageous.
