This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Conduct tax and regulatory assessments on behalf of clients.
• Execute review tasks to identify, rectify, and document any deficiencies in client tax/fee revenues.
• Examine taxpayer records for compliance under the supervision of management.
• Continuously enhance knowledge of tax legislation.
• Research for examination leads and coordinate appointment scheduling.
• Prepare for examinations by reviewing tax returns, previous audit reports, and any other relevant data prior to the audit.
• Meet with taxpayers to explain examination procedures, respond to inquiries, and gather essential information and documentation.
• Assess and validate business and financial records.
• Compile documentation supporting all adjustments and calculate assessments.
• Review and discuss findings with the taxpayer and/or their representative to demonstrate how tax laws and regulations apply to the taxpayer's specific operations and to substantiate examination outcomes.
• Address taxpayer inquiries; may participate in hearings for disputed cases; perform related duties as necessary.
• Conduct closing conferences with taxpayers and/or their representatives, explaining relevant laws and facts supporting changes in tax liabilities and striving to reach an agreement on findings in reports.
• Travel as necessary.
• Undertake other assigned duties.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting - REQUIRED
• Preferred knowledge or experience in state and local taxation
• CPA, CFE, CMI, CTE, CRE, or CIA credentials are preferred
• Professional experience, especially in corporate accounting and finance, is preferred.
• Experience with state or local revenue departments, compliance audits, and audit defense is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles coupled with analytical skills.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to organize, plan, and direct tasks effectively.
• Professional demeanor, customer service-oriented, tactful, reliable, and adaptable.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with personnel at all organizational levels.
• Proficient knowledge of Accounting Systems and Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, including diplomacy, flexibility, and reliability.
• Capability to apply skill sets, experience, and training to make informed decisions amid uncertainty.
• Demonstrate awareness while performing tasks to assess and identify potential issues.
• Ability to comprehend the limitations faced by taxpayers and clients concerning the provision of information/records, with the aptitude to diplomatically navigate these challenges.
