This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +32 more states.
• Follow up on designated accounts to ensure optimal cash flow until accounts are settled, work standards are fulfilled, or accounts are referred to a collection agency or classified as uncollectable.
• Communicate with patients, employers, insurance providers, and government entities via phone or mail to facilitate payment.
• Build effective working relationships with patients, collection agencies, vendors, and internal departments to address account concerns.
• Manage requests, inquiries, and complaints related to the bad debt collection process.
• Resolve patient billing and collection issues by utilizing interpersonal skills and sound credit procedures.
• Interpret insurance verification, billing, follow-up, collection, and legal information to address patient inquiries and account concerns.
• Record account openings, processes, and actions taken to resolve outstanding matters.
• Manage settlement proposals, vendor remittances, and cash posting challenges associated with bad debt accounts.
• Acquire knowledge and perform actions in all patient billing systems to effectively manage bad debt accounts.
• Utilize collection strategies to maintain the lowest possible bad debt expense write-off ratio.
• Maintain and reconcile records of placements with third-party agencies.
• Reconcile discrepancies between bad debt balances and third-party records.
• Monitor patterns in agency or patient billing issues and notify management.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Generally requires 2 years of experience in insurance processing, collections, or customer service.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and adept at quickly learning new systems and procedures.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated negotiation abilities.
• Capacity to swiftly review information and make informed decisions.
• Adaptability to undertake special projects and new job assignments as business needs evolve.
• Knowledge of medical insurance billing, accounts, and/or legal processes.
• Must be able to sit for the majority of the workday.
• Occasionally lift up to 10 lbs. when handling manuals and binders.
