Coding Specialist – Outpatient Surgical Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Rhode Island.

📋 Description

• Reviews clinical documentation for outpatient services to extract data and assign the correct ICD-10-CM and CPT codes.

• Ensures that the documentation substantiates the code assignment by thoroughly examining medical records.

• Employs the 3M 360 Finder for accurate code assignment.

• Oversees the outpatient uncoded report to guarantee a prompt coding and billing process.

• Assigns codes for injections and infusions for patients under observation.

• Communicates any documentation shortcomings to the appropriate physician.

• Updates patient financial accounts within the Patient Management and Patient Accounting billing system as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent.

• Successful completion of a formal coding educational program.

• Coding certification is mandatory from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

• One to two years of experience in outpatient coding or billing.

• Capability to meet and uphold established quality and productivity standards.
