Professional Coder, Per Diem – Day

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Diligently reviews and assigns Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and ICD-10-CM codes for professional claims.

• Implements official coding standards and regulations set forth by the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

• Evaluates procedure documentation to ensure accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 codes.

• Guarantees proper coding of evaluation and management services.

• Works collaboratively with billing, charge review, and revenue integrity teams to mitigate recurring issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) is mandatory.

• An Associate's degree in health information management is preferred.

• A minimum of two years' experience in a physician coding position is preferred.

• Experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding is preferred.

• At least one year of surgical coding experience is preferred.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are essential.

• Strong understanding of surgical coding guidelines is necessary.

• Knowledge of pathophysiology and disease processes is required.

• Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Familiarity with Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, or Pathophysiology is needed.
