Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• The Coding Specialist plays a key role in accurately applying ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes to support reimbursement and reporting needs.

• Collaborate with various departments to monitor the status of coding processes.

• Recognize improvement opportunities and partner with relevant staff to ensure documentation adheres to coding standards.

• Analyze data trends and relay potential training requirements to professional development personnel and leadership.

• Assign diagnostic and/or procedure codes based on supporting medical and clinical documentation found in the patient's record or associated documents.

• Input and reconcile all medications necessary for Medicare claim reporting.

• Strive to meet performance goals, work towards individual development plans (IDP), and embody the values and competencies of Four Seasons.

• Identify, compile, abstract, and code patient data utilizing standard classification systems.

• Resolve and clarify codes and diagnoses with uncertain, missing, or conflicting information by consulting with physicians, billing, palliative care, and clinical informatics for additional context.

• Plan, develop, maintain, and manage a variety of health record indexes and systems for storing and retrieving information to collect, classify, and analyze data.

• Seek improvement opportunities while reviewing clinical documentation for prospective, retrospective, and concurrent evaluations.

• Compile and manage patient medical records to document conditions and treatments, providing data for third-party payers, research, or other enhancement initiatives.

• Enter data, including demographic details, medical history, disease extent, diagnostic procedures, and treatment within the EMR system.

• Identify and communicate trends and staff training necessities to the Professional Development team.

• Release information to individuals and agencies in accordance with regulations.

• Safeguard the security of medical records to uphold confidentiality.


⛳️ Requirements

• Associate degree in healthcare, business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

• 2-3 years of experience in an administrative, business, or healthcare environment.

• Certified Coder in ICD-9 and ICD-10 (in progress is acceptable).

• Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.

• Familiarity with HIPAA privacy policies, informed consent, and other relevant regulations.

• Understanding of regulations governing the professional domain.

• Exceptional written, oral, and collaborative communication abilities.

• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.

• Proficient in MS Office applications: Outlook, Excel, and Word.

• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to perform under pressure to meet deadlines.

• Initiative to adopt innovative approaches.

• Capability to interact with various departments across the organization.

• Willingness to function as a team player.

• Skills to plan, prioritize, and coordinate daily tasks effectively.

• Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift up to 35 pounds, and sit for extended periods.
