Coder I – Outpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Responsible for assigning and sequencing ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

• Evaluates physician documentation and coding to ensure appropriateness and accuracy.

• Employs electronic medical records and computer-assisted coding (CAC) software.

• Addresses relevant coding edits as necessary.

• Adheres to organization-wide coding standards and practices.

• Engages in communication and provides educational support to an audience that may include physicians and clinical staff.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• An Associate's degree in a health-related field is preferred.

• Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is essential.

• Understanding of medical record documentation requirements.

• Knowledge of HIPAA privacy regulations.

• Experience in assigning and sequencing ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes is required.

• A minimum of 2 years of inpatient coding experience is preferred.

• A minimum of 2 years of outpatient coding experience is preferred.

• Knowledge of pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, radiology, and other clinical specialties is preferred.

• Proficient understanding of charging and billing processes.

• Certification as a Certified Coding Apprentice (CCA) is required.
