COBOL Developer – z/OS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Transform legacy RPG II applications into well-organized, maintainable COBOL on z/OS.

• Evaluate existing program logic, file structures, and data flows to ensure the converted code operates consistently.

• Create and manage JCL, batch job streams, and associated utilities.

• Compose and optimize SQL for DB2 on z/OS and work with VSAM and sequential datasets.

• Engage in unit, regression, and parallel testing, including data validation and reconciliation between legacy and converted outputs.

• Prepare code and data for rehosting on GCP using the Raincode compiler and runtime.

• Document converted programs, data dependencies, and technical decisions.

• Collaborate with the client's technical and migration teams in an Agile environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of professional COBOL development experience on IBM z/OS mainframes.

• Strong SQL and data skills, particularly with DB2 for z/OS (embedded SQL, query optimization, data modeling).

• Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, and batch processing.

• Experience with VSAM, QSAM/sequential files, and GDGs.

• Familiarity with mainframe utilities such as DFSORT/SYNCSORT and IDCAMS.

• Knowledge of CICS.

• Experience in legacy modernization, code conversion, or mainframe migration projects.

• Familiarity with mainframe rehosting or emulation platforms (Raincode, Micro Focus/Rocket Enterprise Server) or GCP.

• Experience with source control and change management tools (Git, Endevor, ChangeMan).

• Experience in data validation, reconciliation, and parallel-run testing.

• B1 level (intermediate) English or higher, able to read and write technical documentation and participate in discussions in English.

• Authorization to work in Colombia or Argentina.

• RPG II experience is not mandatory; training will be provided.
