COBOL Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, maintain, and improve enterprise applications that support Point-of-Sale and batch processing environments.

• Analyze, design, develop, implement, maintain, and enhance systems utilizing Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, Oracle, and JCL.

• Review RFPs and business requirements while collaborating with internal teams and clients.

• Contribute to solution design, create technical documentation, and provide development estimates.

• Develop and perform unit testing for software solutions.

• Create testing recommendations and assist in thorough testing of system modifications and enhancements.

• Troubleshoot, investigate, resolve, and document complex application and production-related issues.

• Identify and implement strategies to reduce system disruptions and prevent outages.

• Provide on-call production support as necessary.

• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to explain technical challenges and propose solutions.

• Assist in drafting functional and technical specifications.

• Present system requirements, designs, and suggested solutions to stakeholders.

• Prepare regular status updates for management.

• Maintain and refresh system documentation, reports, and technical exhibits.

• Support system upgrades and modernization efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience with Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, JCL, and Oracle in a Linux environment.

• Strong practical expertise in Micro Focus COBOL, Oracle 10g/11g, CICS, and JCL.

• Proficient SQL skills with the capability to create complex SQL statements.

• Hands-on experience with Micro Focus Net Express IDE.

• Familiarity with a Red Hat Linux environment.

• Experience in developing or supporting a Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) system.

• Experience with production support tasks and monitoring.

• Willingness to work morning or afternoon shifts based on business needs.

• Understanding of mainframe environments and technologies.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a knack for troubleshooting complex technical issues.

• Capability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.

• At least 3 years of professional experience based in the U.S.

• Preferred: Experience with IBM COBOL, ACUCOBOL, or other COBOL environments.

• Preferred: Familiarity with ANSI-compliant databases.

• Preferred: Experience working with SQL across various relational database platforms.
