This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan, +2 more states.
• Assist the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office for Coastal Management (OCM) in executing the National Coastal Zone Management Program and projects supported by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI).
• Offer coastal management liaison support to facilitate the implementation of NOAA programs within the Great Lakes region.
• Aid in the execution of Coastal Zone Management Act Programs: Collaborate with designated Coastal Zone Management Programs and NOAA’s Federal Program Officer to provide recommendations, process, amend, and oversee cooperative agreements and grants.
• Carry out necessary environmental compliance for cooperative agreement tasks, including pertinent post-award actions.
• Support implementation activities by reviewing and analyzing annual grant/financial assistance awards; evaluating and recommending approval of performance measure submissions; and conducting program evaluations mandated by the CZMA.
• Deliver subject matter expertise and regional coordination support on coastal management topics, encompassing habitat and water quality concerns.
• Identify and promote programmatic synergies among the National Estuarine Research Reserves, Coastal Zone Management programs, and other partners in the Great Lakes.
• A Master’s degree in Environmental Policy, Marine Policy, or a related discipline, accompanied by 3 additional years of pertinent professional experience.
• Proven knowledge of and experience with coastal zone management issues and the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA), with a strong preference for candidates with Great Lakes experience.
• Experience in implementing nature-based solutions for shoreline management and executing projects that enhance the climate resilience of coastal communities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Capacity to pass a National Agency Check and fingerprinting background check, maintaining it throughout the duration of employment.
• Documented experience in providing environmental planning, policy, technical, and regulatory support to the Federal Government.
• Robust knowledge of and experience with Tribal governments throughout the Great Lakes.
• Proven experience in stakeholder outreach and engagement, particularly concerning environmental policy matters.
• Training or demonstrated proficiency in facilitation.
• A self-starter with the capability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
