Cloud Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Design and create modular, reusable cloud platform services and RESTful APIs that simplify infrastructure complexities and enable standardized usage across engineering teams.

• Spearhead the development and enhancement of a web-based cloud services portal, encompassing backend services and user-facing components for self-service provisioning.

• Establish and uphold service interfaces, API contracts, integration patterns, and versioning strategies to guarantee scalability and long-term sustainability.

• Provide technical direction and support for platform and portal initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and operational standards.

• Develop backend services and orchestration layers utilizing Python and PHP to facilitate platform automation and portal functionality.

• Incorporate AI features, including generative AI and agentic AI patterns, to improve developer experience, intelligent automation, and platform interactions.

• Construct infrastructure-backed services employing Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation across multi-cloud environments.

• Take ownership of and continually enhance the Golden Container Image Factory and Cloud Server Image Factory, ensuring secure, compliant, version-controlled images across various operating systems and cloud providers.

• Collaborate closely with engineering, security, networking, and UX/UI teams to provide cohesive and user-friendly internal developer platform experiences.

• Drive ongoing enhancements in platform scalability, resilience, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering best practices in platform engineering, modular architecture, and software development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, cloud platform engineering, or related fields within enterprise settings.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and developing modular, API-driven platforms or Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs).

• Strong practical expertise in backend development using Python and PHP, including scalable RESTful API design.

• Experience in building and integrating web-based developer portals with backend services.

• Expert-level knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and cloud automation practices.

• Extensive experience with containerization (Docker) and managing the container image lifecycle.

• Proven ability to design and manage cloud server image pipelines across various operating systems and cloud providers.

• Solid understanding of cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, networking fundamentals, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong knowledge of enterprise cloud security principles, including IAM, policy enforcement, and secure software supply chain practices.

• Proven capability to provide technical leadership, influence cross-functional teams, and mentor engineers without direct management responsibilities.
