This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Assist in the advancement of BlueRock’s ophthalmology clinical trial pipeline as a field-based member of Clinical Development.
• Offer guidance to investigators, operating-room personnel, and clinical staff through in-person attendance during surgical procedures.
• Act as BlueRock’s main representative within operating rooms throughout ophthalmic surgeries.
• Design, implement, and manage surgical training programs and associated materials.
• Create quality resources and tools for knowledge assessment tailored for physicians and clinical support teams.
• Gather and relay technical surgical information and feedback from clinical investigators.
• Deliver clinical support for hands-on skills development and procedure training.
• Organize and conduct wet labs, surgical choreography, manual maintenance, training material creation, and presentations.
• Provide on-site assistance during surgical procedures.
• Enhance procedure training materials and manuals in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to standardize cell delivery.
• Stay updated on medical/scientific research and publications related to retina.
• Establish and nurture relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in inherited retinal diseases.
• Engage healthcare professionals in compliant scientific discussions and disseminate clinical and scientific knowledge.
• Present at clinical/surgical sites, congresses, symposia, and training events as required.
• Develop investigator engagement plans to support recruitment, site identification, and selection.
• Offer clinical trial liaison support, including protocol assistance, addressing screening obstacles, and enhancing recruitment and retention.
• Formulate prioritized action plans for clinical-site challenges, document strategies, and track progress with sites.
• Collaborate with internal R&D and Clinical Operations to assist principal investigators.
• Gather medical insights from principal investigators to refine strategic approaches.
• Oversee daily administration and operational tasks of the position.
• Provide clinical/scientific expertise to investigators and healthcare professionals.
• Connect operating-room staff with BlueRock medical experts to address inquiries or safety concerns.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of cell preparation processes and surgical devices utilized in clinical trials.
• Report to the Lead Surgical Science Liaison, Ophthalmology.
• An advanced clinical/science degree is required (e.g., MD, OD, PharmD, PhD, MSN, RN, NP, PA).
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a surgical and/or clinical environment or industry experience is required.
• Prior industry-based surgical/MSL experience is preferred.
• Experience in the ophthalmology therapeutic area is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in ophthalmic, preferably retina, surgical procedures, including familiarity with instruments and equipment.
• Proficiency in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), adverse event reporting, and International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines.
• Experience in understanding the design and execution of clinical trials.
• Experience in creating and delivering scientific presentations.
• Basic experience in medical writing and a general understanding of biostatistics.
• Maintain all necessary certifications, hospital vendor credentialing, and compliance with non-human primate facility access requirements, including HIPAA Certification, Blood Borne Pathogen Infection Control and Aseptic Technique, Fire Safety, and institutional requirements such as current vaccinations.
• Capable of interacting professionally and effectively with customers, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel.
• Ability to work independently from a remote setting.
• Exceptional attention to detail, along with strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Proficient in computer skills for generating reports, presentations, spreadsheets, and more.
• Capable of communicating clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats.
• Ability to manage multiple complex and competing objectives and priorities.
• Possess a learning mindset and openness to training across various customer types or therapeutic areas.
