This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.
• Gather, verify, and conduct clinical quality reviews of patient-level data for national clinical quality initiatives and clinical data registries.
• Oversee the process of retrieving medical records for data abstraction.
• Collect intricate data elements utilizing established definitions.
• Ensure the integrity of electronic data sent to national databases and registries.
• Prepare and analyze clinical data reports.
• Collaborate with clinical team members on projects aimed at quality improvement.
• Convert clinical documentation into actionable insights for improvement.
• Identify discrepancies, assess potential causes, and support action plans for clinical care enhancement.
• Assist clinical and administrative leadership, quality leaders, subject matter experts, stakeholders, and ad hoc teams.
• Provide guidance, advice, and standard practices for the design and maintenance of registries and clinical databases.
• Extract clinical data from electronic medical records based on patient-selection criteria and sponsoring or regulatory guidelines.
• Create efficient data collection and management processes.
• Validate data, clarify case inquiries, and maintain productivity in abstraction.
• Upload and submit data files; investigate and rectify submission errors.
• Address software, reporting, benchmarking, and related issues with stakeholders.
• Promote collaboration between abstraction personnel and clinical leaders.
• Report quality outcomes, performance metrics, and compliance results to clinical stakeholders.
• Review medical records for deviations or non-compliance, identify trends and patterns, and provide feedback to stakeholders.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• An associate degree is required, preferably in healthcare, Health Information Management, or a related field.
• Five or more years of directly related data abstraction experience will be accepted in lieu of an associate degree.
• Preferred: Two years of experience in clinical data abstraction, data management, or data entry.
• If involved with a cancer registry, Oncology Data Specialist Certification by NCRA is mandatory within one year of employment.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, databases, and data entry.
• Strong mathematical skills.
• Familiarity with electronic health records and electronic medical records.
• Working knowledge of quality improvement, clinical data review, and performance improvement methodologies.
• Ability to effectively communicate opportunities for improvement.
• Detail-oriented.
• Capacity to work independently and adhere to sponsoring-agency standards and definitions.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with and build relationships within quality improvement teams.
• Ability to utilize appropriate resources for decision-making regarding data abstraction, interpretation, and dissemination.
