This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.
• Gather, verify, and conduct clinical quality assessments of patient-level data for national clinical quality initiatives and clinical data registries.
• Oversee the entire medical record retrieval process to abstract necessary data.
• Acquire complex data elements utilizing established definitions.
• Ensure the integrity of electronic data sent to national databases and registries.
• Prepare and analyze clinical data reports.
• Collaborate with clinical team members on quality enhancement projects.
• Convert clinical documentation into actionable insights for improvement.
• Identify discrepancies both between and within systems and assess potential causes.
• Partner with leadership teams, quality leaders, subject matter experts, stakeholders, and ad hoc teams on data abstraction and performance enhancement.
• Abstract clinical data from electronic medical records, adhering to patient-selection criteria and guidelines set by sponsoring or regulatory entities.
• Create efficient processes for data collection and management.
• Validate data, clarify case inquiries, and maintain proficiency and productivity in abstraction.
• Upload and submit data files; investigate and rectify submission errors.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to address software, report capacity, and benchmarking challenges.
• Promote teamwork between abstraction staff and clinical leaders.
• Convene with clinical stakeholders to discuss quality outcomes, performance, and compliance results.
• Examine medical records for deviations or non-compliance, identify trends and patterns, and provide feedback to stakeholders.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Associate degree; a background in a healthcare-related field, Health Information Management, or a related area is preferred.
• In place of an Associate degree, five (5) or more years of relevant data abstraction experience may be considered.
• Preferred two (2) years of experience in clinical data abstraction, data management, or data entry.
• Oncology Data Specialist Certification from the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) is required within one year of employment if working with the Cancer registry.
• Proficient in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, databases, and data entry.
• Strong mathematical skills.
• Familiarity with electronic health records and electronic medical records.
• Understanding of quality improvement, clinical data review, and performance enhancement methodologies.
• Ability to effectively communicate improvement opportunities.
• Attention to detail.
• Capacity to work independently and comply with standards and definitions set by sponsoring agencies/entities.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact and build relationships within quality improvement teams.
• Ability to utilize appropriate resources for making decisions regarding data abstraction, interpretation, and dissemination.
• Knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, data abstraction, and data entry.
• Remote work (the role title specifies “Days-Remote”).
