This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the key thought and operational advisor to the President regarding her daily priorities, engagements, and meetings. Provide recommendations on how the President can best allocate her time, including event participation and involvement.
• Assist the President in fostering relationships with partners, funders, grantees, and senior leaders within the progressive community, ensuring thorough preparation and follow-up in collaboration with relevant team members.
• Establish and nurture relationships with essential stakeholders, including board members, partners, and donors, to further DA’s mission. This role also involves engaging extensively with labor leaders.
• Create systems to ensure alignment of the President’s activities with organizational strategy and priorities. Work alongside the President and Senior Team to define and monitor daily, weekly, and long-term objectives.
• Prepare the President for meetings, events, and public appearances by coordinating preparation materials and gathering background information from staff.
• Manage correspondence independently and provide advice on meeting and engagement requests. This includes drafting talking points, framing agendas, and composing emails on behalf of the President.
• Serve as the main external contact for all events, meetings, and speaking engagements; take the lead in coordinating logistics and preparing materials.
• Proactively identify and address any unnecessary issues before they escalate to the President.
• Prioritize competing demands; efficiently manage organizational matters, proactively ensuring project follow-through to successful completion, often under deadline pressure.
• Represent the President in meetings as needed, acting on her behalf and for the organization.
• Collaborate with the Executive Assistant to oversee the President’s schedule, priorities, travel, and high-profile events, ensuring that her time and engagements align strategically with organizational goals and are closely coordinated with the Partnerships team.
• Work with other senior team members to define organizational strategy, priorities, and goals that support the needs of the progressive ecosystem.
• Contribute to setting organizational priorities and developing annual goals by aligning the President’s work with staff-wide objectives and ensuring proper information flow and decision-making to relevant teams.
• Collaborate closely with senior leadership to guarantee that the President’s initiatives and decisions are effectively communicated and executed throughout the organization.
• Manage strategic projects on behalf of the President; develop detailed project plans, foresee obstacles, and ensure continuity in operations without the President's direct involvement.
• Anticipate relationship and communication needs, ensuring timely follow-up and strong management of key connections.
• Partner with the Senior Team to strategically lead the Board of Directors, including the development and execution of high-quality, consistent, and engaging Board interactions, such as meetings, retreats, and communications.
• Assist the President in cultivating the Board, expanding individual Board relationships, and enhancing the Board collectively.
• 8 –10+ years of professional experience, including a minimum of 3 years in senior-level leadership within a mission-driven, complex organization (experience in politics, movement, philanthropy, advocacy, labor, or nonprofit is preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to build trust and manage relationships with senior leaders, partners, and staff at all levels; experience with organized labor is a plus.
• Outstanding writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Strong project management capabilities with a keen attention to detail.
• Highly organized, proactive, and adaptable, possessing a solutions-oriented approach.
• Excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage confidential information effectively.
• Capacity to proactively identify issues, anticipate needs, and devise solutions.
• Experience in developing and managing systems that enhance efficiency, accountability, and clarity.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with senior executives, donors, Board members, and staff.
• Advanced proficiency in Outlook and Google Workspace.
• Proven ability to synthesize information, prioritize multiple projects, and maintain composure in dynamic, high-pressure situations.
• Residing in New York City is a plus, with the ability to travel up to 30% as required.
