
Certified Medical Coding Specialist – Professional Based

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Hampshire.
• Review and evaluate professional medical records, encompassing office visits, hospital-based professional services, and outpatient encounters.
• Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
• Implement suitable CPT modifiers, units, place of service indicators, and billing rules specific to payers.
• Abstract and input coded data into Epic and other professional billing and coding systems.
• Ensure adherence to official coding guidelines, regulatory standards, payer policies, and organizational protocols.
• Maintain a minimum coding accuracy rate of 95% while achieving established productivity benchmarks.
• Review, investigate, and resolve claim edits and coding-related discrepancies.
• Validate provider documentation and inquire with providers for clarification or additional information as necessary.
• Act as a subject matter expert in professional coding, including E/M services, procedure coding, and modifier application.
• Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, educators, and revenue cycle teams to address coding and documentation challenges.
• Monitor and report on coding and documentation trends that affect professional billing and compliance.
• Stay updated on coding revisions, regulatory changes, and professional billing requirements.
• Engage in audits, education, training, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
• High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• An Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred.
• Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-Based (CCS-P) is required at the time of hire.
• A minimum of two (2) years of professional coding experience in a multispecialty physician environment.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Understanding of professional coding guidelines and compliant coding practices.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and regulatory compliance (CMS, HIPAA).
• Proficiency in Epic and coding/encoder software is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication abilities.
