This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Conduct original and copy cataloging of monographs and serials using OCLC Connexion, adhering to RDA, AACR2, MARC21, and local cataloging standards.
• Review and enhance existing bibliographic records to comply with RDA, MARC21, and updated local cataloging practices.
• Assign controlled subject headings based on Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH).
• Designate controlled headings for series titles and corporate authors.
• Research to identify the need for new name authorities and suggest updates or additions to senior catalogers.
• Create, update, and modify holding and item records as directed.
• Manage and adjust serial publication patterns and frequency as required.
• Maintain comprehensive metrics and deliver regular activity reports.
• A Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in library technical services operations, particularly in the cataloging/metadata unit, focusing on original and copy cataloging/metadata.
• Proficiency with the MARC 21 standard.
• Extensive knowledge and experience with classification schemas such as Dewey, Library of Congress, and/or SuDocs.
• Strong skills and experience in utilizing an Integrated Library System (ILS).
• Experience in cataloging serials and maps.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, along with other business applications.
• Capacity to comply with national bibliographic standards set by Resource Description Access (RDA) for various material formats, including electronic, print, and microform.
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with paraprofessionals, library professionals, and agency personnel.
• Capability to work independently while exercising discretion, initiative, and judgment.
• Aptitude for thriving in a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in performing diverse and complex tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of RDA core elements.
• Familiarity with OCLC Connexion.
