Business Risk Program Director, BSA Advisor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on intricate regulatory, compliance, and financial crime topics, such as BSA/AML, Customer Identification Program (CIP), Know Your Customer (KYC), beneficial ownership, sanctions compliance, and relevant regulatory frameworks.

• Collaborate directly with internal stakeholders and external partners to evaluate new products, programs, and business models, providing risk and regulatory guidance that fosters innovation while ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and risk management standards.

• Generate high-quality regulatory and risk memoranda that effectively articulate issues, explore alternatives, assess risks, and offer well-supported recommendations grounded in legal authorities, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions, and industry practices.

• Interpret laws, regulations, examination guidelines, and regulatory expectations, translating them into actionable business and risk requirements.

• Counsel leadership, legal, compliance, and business partners on complex risk and regulatory issues, delivering practical solutions that harmonize innovation, customer experience, and risk management.

• Work closely with business partners, fintechs, and third-party organizations to assess products, services, and business models, providing risk-oriented guidance and regulatory expertise to identify obligations, evaluate compliance, and address fraud, financial crime, operational, and reputational risks, while developing practical, compliant solutions.

• Keep abreast of regulatory developments, enforcement trends, and industry practices to spot emerging risks and potential opportunities for program improvement.

• Question assumptions, investigate root causes, and utilize critical thinking to resolve ambiguous or unprecedented issues through a reasoned, risk-based methodology.

• Utilize data, research, and analytical methods to aid decision-making and enhance risk governance.

• Present findings, recommendations, and regulatory positions to senior leadership, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders.

• Promote a culture of intellectual curiosity, continuous learning, and prudent risk management.

• Undertake additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and work experience; a Master's degree is preferred.

• Typically requires at least 12 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

• Proven ability to conduct independent research on complex and ambiguous regulatory matters.

• Excellent writing skills, with experience in drafting executive-level memoranda, regulatory analyses, legal-risk assessments, and position papers.

• Capability to synthesize complex legal, regulatory, operational, and business factors into clear and actionable recommendations.

• A strong intellectual curiosity and a demonstrable ability to identify innovative solutions while ensuring regulatory compliance and robust risk management principles.

• Strong judgment and the capacity to develop defensible positions in uncertain conditions.

• Experience collaborating with regulators, auditors, legal counsel, and senior executives.
