Bioinformatics Engineer II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Lead the development of technical solutions from concept to launch, which includes designing process flows and estimating time and complexity.

• Create and implement custom software based on ticket requirements.

• Establish high standards for quality and guide junior engineers.

• Offer clear and consistent feedback during code evaluations.

• Collaborate with clients, partners, product owners, and stakeholders to comprehend and clarify workflows and specifications.

• Identify development obstacles and issues for prompt resolution.

• Oversee processes, record information, and address troubleshooting needs.

• Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, a Master's degree with at least 2 years of experience, or a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

• Strong proficiency in Python programming.

• Intermediate to advanced experience in Linux environments, including compiling source code and performing text manipulations using pipes.

• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.

• Familiarity with software engineering best practices, encompassing Git version control, unit testing, and documentation.

• Understanding of next-generation sequencing technologies and standard bioinformatics data formats, including FASTQ, BAM, VCF, and GTF.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

• Experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

• Knowledge of Atlassian suite applications such as Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket.

• Awareness of clinical genetics databases like ClinVar and HGMD, along with HGVS sequence variant nomenclature.

• Previous experience in biology and/or familiarity with mutation analysis.

• Proficient in creating and managing Docker containers.

• Experience in developing APIs.

• Familiarity with CI/CD tools, including Bamboo, Jenkins, or AWS Code Pipeline.
