This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assess clinical documentation to ensure accurate and prompt charge entry into the billing system in line with payer requirements.
• Track missing or delayed charges and facilitate timely submissions within payer filing deadlines.
• Process insurance claims and track their status.
• Detect and rectify claim errors, rejections, and denials.
• Investigate, amend, resubmit, and follow up on denied claims.
• Recognize billing denial trends and provide insights to enhance clean claim rates and reimbursement results.
• Act as a billing liaison for families, clarifying insurance processing, copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances.
• Assist with self-pay billing, patient statement cycles, and customized payment plans.
• Aid in accounts receivable monitoring through reporting, reconciliation, and audit tasks.
• Utilize billing and financial reports to manage daily operations and prioritize follow-up activities.
• Collaborate with Patient Experience, Authorization & Eligibility, and clinical teams to address coverage inquiries and promote billing education.
• Uphold accurate patient accounting records while complying with HIPAA and data privacy regulations.
• Contribute to billing audits and process improvement initiatives.
• 1–3 years of experience in healthcare billing; experience in behavioral health or telehealth is highly desirable.
• A bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field is preferred.
• Solid understanding of insurance payer policies, billing standards, and claims submission processes.
• Familiar with CPT and ICD-10 codes and their influence on billing and reimbursement.
• Experience with billing platforms such as Mahler, Apero, or similar RCM software is preferred.
• Competence in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, especially spreadsheets.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organization; capable of handling multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex insurance concepts to families.
• Ability to work autonomously while seeking assistance when necessary.
• A collaborative and customer-service-oriented mindset when assisting patients and families.
• Previous experience in medical billing or coding is preferred.
• Background in behavioral health billing is preferred.
• Experience in startup or entrepreneurial settings is preferred.
• Experience in generating billing and claims reports is preferred.
• A passion for mental health and enhancing access to care is preferred.
