This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +3 more states.
• Evaluate the design and engineering aspects of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring adherence to contracts, utility requirements, and AHJ regulations under supervision.
• Act as a technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering disciplines for various projects.
• Collaborate with Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to guarantee clarity of scope and timely completion.
• Coordinate efforts with fire protection engineers and local fire departments/AHJ’s.
• Assist procurement by providing technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components.
• Offer technical oversight during procurement processes, including vendor recommendations and drawing evaluations under supervision.
• Work together with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Engage in system modeling, simulation, and analysis to enhance performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Provide engineering support throughout construction, including resolving field issues, design clarifications, and minor redesigns.
• Offer engineering assistance for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in meetings with customers and clients.
• Participate in regular team meetings and calls.
• Travel as necessary to support project execution.
• Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Over 1 year of electrical engineering experience focusing on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Knowledge of the design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems, including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems), and grid interconnection equipment.
• Familiarity with BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards).
• Understanding of fire protection regulations (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Knowledge of communication protocols utilized in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).
• Proficient in EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners.
• Experience in supporting solar, BESS, power, or civil/site projects, including familiarity with pre-construction and execution phases.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and resources.
• Capable of managing multiple priorities, adapting to dynamic project requirements, and delivering high-quality results under tight deadlines.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Bluebeam, with the ability to maintain trackers, logs, schedules, and reports.
