Benefits Assessor – MRI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Evaluate Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support in line with legislation, case law, council procedures, accuracy standards, and designated clearance times.

• Process tasks assigned by Benefit Team Leaders in accordance with performance indicators and office protocols.

• Assess various types of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit applications, including those from students, self-employed individuals, tenure cases, overpayments, and underlying entitlement cases.

• Initially investigate complaints and verify claims to established standards.

• Maintain precise customer records utilizing the Council’s online computer systems while adhering to data protection, freedom of information, and security regulations.

• Advise customers, encourage the uptake of housing, council tax, and welfare benefits, and ensure that customers receive entitled benefits and additional income.

• Identify and initiate recovery actions for overpaid benefits and categorize overpayments for subsidy purposes.

• Provide support, training, and mentoring to colleagues and partners.

• Perform quality control checks, identify discrepancies and errors, and report findings to the Benefits Team Leader.

• Conduct home visits to address inquiries related to benefits.

• Manage telephone inquiries and assist One-Stop-Shop employees with complex issues; conduct customer interviews when necessary.

• Collaborate with Council Tax Billing, Recovery, and Fraud sections.

• Liaise with DWP offices, the Rent Officer Service, housing associations, and private landlords.

• Stay informed about new legislation.

• Process Housing Benefit claims at frontline and alternative venues as required.

• Refer potential fraud cases to the Fraud Team and coordinate with investigators.

• Recent experience in the Benefits Assessor position.

• Fully competent in all aspects of assessing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.

• Highly proficient user of MRI (Academy) software.
