Background Investigator, FT

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Successfully complete a full-time training program for new Investigators lasting 6–7 weeks, conducted both virtually and in person, to achieve certification in the Federal Investigative Standards.

• Engage in daily travel to perform in-person background investigations that assess the employment suitability of individuals seeking access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Organize and carry out face-to-face interviews with subjects, their neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Conduct thorough record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial institutions, as well as medical and mental health facilities.

• Document and report the information gathered clearly and concisely using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently, collaborate as part of a team of investigators, and coordinate with a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree is acceptable.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance is essential.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Residency within 50 miles of the Raleigh city center is required.

• Daily local travel and travel outside the primary work area as necessary.

• The role may require Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY)/remote travel lasting 14–30 days away from home per TDY.

• A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for full-time use are mandatory.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is required.

• Typing skills should be accurate and efficient, with a recommended speed of 40+ WPM.

• Ability to work simultaneously with multiple computer programs.

• Capability to speak for prolonged periods and hear adequately for effective in-person and telephone communication.

• Must be able to record, read, and transcribe words and numbers with precision.

• Strong grammar and writing skills are essential.

• Must interact professionally with others.

• Ability to write for extended durations is required.

• Attendance, punctuality, attention to detail, confidentiality, ethics, and integrity are critical attributes.

• Professional attire is mandatory.

• Physical ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive under adverse or nighttime conditions.
