Backend Engineer – Billing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Expanding our billing system to achieve over $100M in revenue (the hundy) by the conclusion of 2026, and further beyond (the billy?).

• Developing billing primitives that are adaptable enough to allow the introduction of new pricing models without necessitating a complete rearchitecture.

• Ensuring our usage reporting and limiting is nearly real-time.

• Converting usage data and disorganized raw invoice information into actionable internal reports, precise forecasts, and compliant financial statements.

• Making all of the above operate smoothly.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient backend engineer. Python, SQL, and intricate data modeling should feel like second nature.

• You thrive on tackling edge cases rather than feeling anxious about them.

• Familiarity with data pipelines, task queues, and workflow orchestration - while we still utilize Celery, we are increasingly adopting Temporal and Dagster.

• If you’ve manually completed a task twice (or witnessed someone else doing so), you’re already in the process of creating automation or an internal tool to simplify it.

• Happy paths account for maybe 10% of billing. You consider error handling, rollbacks, and retries to be the core of your work - not just TODOs for later.

• You possess the initiative to build without needing direction. Whether you’ve started a company, taken the lead on a significant project from the ground up, or delivered an impressive side project, you know how to take charge.
