Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for segments of the TypeScript product backend, which includes recordings, clips, consent, entitlements, payouts, and community aspects.

• Develop and sustain the integration of the Go/Kubernetes recording pipeline with the product.

• Implement Kafka consumers, enable idempotent and out-of-order-tolerant webhook ingestion, create a gRPC control plane, and execute ClickHouse analytics reads.

• Enhance the pipeline's capacity from handling dozens to thousands of concurrent recordings.

• Oversee worker fleet capacity, manage memory budgets, segment spool windows, consumer throughput, egress strategy, and retention/deletion processes.

• Contribute to a new VOD analysis pipeline that transcribes, classifies, and labels content to improve searchability and licensing.

• Operate established systems through dashboards, alerts, error budgets, deployment practices, incident response, and postmortems.

• Collaborate with typed, contract-first systems and shared schemas across backend, web, and app environments.

• Guide AI coding agents, assess their outputs, and develop safety measures such as tests and CI gates.

• Proven experience in operating systems that you have developed in production environments.

• Proficient in TypeScript.

• An inquisitive mindset toward Go.

• Comfortable working with Postgres and at least one of Kafka, ClickHouse, or Kubernetes.

• Solid understanding of contracts, idempotency, and potential failure modes.

• A strong desire for ownership and accountability.

• Excellent written communication skills.

• Experience in reading or writing Go within production systems is an asset.

• Experience managing distributed, event-driven infrastructure like Kafka or Kubernetes at scale is advantageous.

• Familiarity with contract-first or schema-driven development, including protobuf and gRPC, is a plus.

• Comfort in collaborating with AI coding agents is a bonus.
