This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Prepare, evaluate, and negotiate various agreements including program, administrative, reinsurance, retrocessionaire, vendor, SaaS, NDA, and other commercial contracts.
• Oversee contract negotiations and ensure timely delivery of agreements with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Track contract portfolio metrics and propose enhancements to contract management systems and AI review tools.
• Advocate for AI-assisted contract review by implementing best practices, mentoring, guiding, and providing training.
• Engage in the development of templates to address contract clauses, mitigate risks, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Assist in claims and cost-containment audit reviews, including handling demand letters, legal responses, coverage positions, and resolution strategies.
• Manage intricate claims litigation, settlement negotiations, releases, outside counsel relationships, and strategic litigation advice.
• Offer practical legal guidance to business units regarding risk mitigation, business objectives, and compliance with regulations.
• Provide counsel on group benefits, insurance solutions, third-party self-funded plan administration, and regulatory issues.
• Lead special projects, process enhancements, policy development, and cross-departmental initiatives.
• Supervise legal interns and administrative personnel, including managing assignments, performance evaluations, development, and workflow.
• Create and deliver legal training for legal, underwriting, claims, and other business teams.
• Represent the Company in relevant industry trade associations and professional organizations.
• Outstanding written communication abilities for intricate commercial, reinsurance, and administrative agreements.
• Capacity to collaborate while independently managing designated responsibilities.
• Skill in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation capabilities.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Proven negotiation and influencing abilities for complex, multi-party negotiations.
• Proficient in evaluating ambiguity and risk while advising business clients.
• Ability to analyze and apply legal principles to business objectives and challenges.
• Experience in supervising and mentoring legal support staff, interns, or junior attorneys.
• Familiarity with designing and delivering training programs.
• Background in ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA, NSA, and relevant insurance laws and regulations.
• Experience in advising on group benefits, insurance solutions, third-party self-funded plan claim administration, and regulatory compliance.
• Expert knowledge in Accident & Health litigation/advisory work, group insurance, stop-loss insurance, third-party benefit administration, or insurance/reinsurance contracts.
• J.D. degree.
• Admitted to a State Bar.
• Eligible for or willing to pursue a New Jersey Limited-License In-House Counsel license within one year of beginning employment.
• Over 8 years of overall legal experience, including at least 3 years in relevant Accident & Health insurance products and claims management.
• Proficient in PC skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
