
Auditing & Education Consultant – Professional Fee

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Acts as a consultant by assessing the coding assignments of clients’ coders in relation to ICD-10, CPT and/or HCPCS codes for hospital inpatient, outpatient, and/or physician practice encounters.
• Conducts either concurrent or retrospective reviews to inventory code assignments and provides reports to the client.
• Creates and presents educational materials to clients concerning audit findings.
• Validates coded data as recognized by AHA, CMS, AMA, AHIMA, AAPC, Coding Clinic, and CPT Assistant within the professional fee billing framework.
• Analyzes results and identifies potential root causes of errors produced.
• Compiles summary reports of findings for clients, including specific references that support the conclusions in the audit report.
• Provides second-level review of processes to confirm adherence to legal and procedural policies, ensuring accurate code assignments.
• Researches, analyzes, and addresses inquiries related to compliance, coding, and denials.
• Functions as part of the Consulting Services Team, which develops and offers coding education to clients.
• Conducts audits as assigned, meeting productivity standards for each audit type.
• Prepares deliverables for clients as required by the audit scope while adhering to timelines.
• Performs independent quality assurance on assigned audit results before final submission for QA review and approval.
• Accurately and promptly reports work hours and completed products.
• Communicates with colleagues in a respectful and open manner, fostering teamwork and knowledge sharing.
• Engages with clients professionally, demonstrating excellent relationships, work performance, and communication skills to support the company and its business objectives.
• Provides management and relevant staff with a schedule of planned work activities, events, and any changes.
• Maintains professional credentials and stays updated on coding, reimbursement, and compliance issues through ongoing education.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in professional fee auditing (profee).
• E/M leveling coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC is mandatory (CPC, COC, CIC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA).
• Required experience with telecommuting and electronic medical record systems.
• Strong analytical skills are essential.
• Proficient in using computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office products.
• Strong ability to work as part of a team.
• Capable of managing multiple and diverse clients and projects.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain and access multiple files effectively.

• Requires a minimum of 5 years in professional fee auditing (profee) along with E/M leveling coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC (CPC, COC, CIC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA).
