
AU Payroll Officer – Hospitality Industry

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.
• Assist in the weekly payroll processing for various Australian entities and Employment Hero payroll files.
• Manage payroll for a large workforce, encompassing casual, hourly, and salaried employees.
• Assess and verify timesheets, rosters, leave approvals, allowances, penalties, overtime, deductions, and employee modifications.
• Implement Australian Modern Awards and established payroll regulations under the guidance of the Senior Payroll Manager.
• Keep accurate employee records, including tax, superannuation, banking, and employment information.
• Prepare and manage payroll-related employee lifecycle transactions such as onboarding, transfers, variations, terminations, leave payments, back pays, adjustments, and final pays.
• Address routine payroll inquiries from employees and management, escalating complex or compliance-related issues when necessary.
• Collaborate with managers to ensure all timesheets, leave requests, and payroll entries are submitted and approved ahead of payroll deadlines.
• Detect, investigate, and rectify payroll discrepancies before payroll finalization.
• Assist with payroll compliance tasks, including payroll tax, superannuation, workers' compensation, and portable long service leave administration.
• Support payroll-related reconciliations, such as leave balances, payroll liabilities, superannuation, payroll tax, and general ledger accounts.
• Generate payroll reports, variance analyses, supporting schedules, payroll journals, and other documentation necessary for review.
• Utilize basic double-entry accounting principles when reviewing or adjusting payroll journals.
• Maintain payroll records, audit documentation, checklists, and process documentation.
• Contribute to payroll process enhancements, system testing, and future workforce or entity expansion initiatives.
• Perform additional duties as needed.
• **Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, Human Resources, or a related field.**
• **Minimum of three years of Australian payroll experience, ideally in a high-volume, multi-entity or casual workforce environment.**
• Hands-on experience in processing Australian weekly or fortnightly payroll from timesheets to finalization.
• **Good understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Fair Work obligations, superannuation, PAYG withholding, and payroll tax fundamentals.**
• **Experience with Australian Modern Awards is preferred, particularly in hospitality, leisure, fitness, events, beauty, or related sectors.**
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and payroll data reconciliation.
• **Familiarity with Employment Hero Payroll is highly valued. Experience with comparable Australian payroll systems is also beneficial.**
• Solid grasp of payroll reconciliations, payroll journals, and basic double-entry accounting principles.
• High numerical accuracy, strong attention to detail, and the ability to identify discrepancies within large data sets.
• Capacity to manage recurring deadlines, adhere to documented controls, and escalate issues as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional and service-oriented demeanor.
