Associate General Counsel – Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.

📋 Description

• Offer legal guidance and counsel concerning information technology, data governance, and digital innovation for Nebraska Medicine.

• Provide legal oversight on enterprise IT projects, such as cloud services, SaaS platforms, electronic health record integrations, digital health tools, telehealth solutions, mobile applications, and advanced analytics technologies.

• Draft, review, and negotiate intricate commercial technology agreements, including software licenses, SaaS contracts, data use and data processing agreements, technology development contracts, and strategic vendor collaborations.

• Advise IT, digital, and operational leaders on data rights, intellectual property strategies, cybersecurity, patient safety, operational risks, and regulatory compliance.

• Counsel on adherence to federal, state, and international privacy and data protection regulations, including HIPAA, state consumer privacy laws, and requirements for cross-border data transfers.

• Provide insight on legal and regulatory aspects concerning artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, focusing on ethical use, risk management, transparency, and governance.

• Support enterprise AI governance frameworks through policy development, committee involvement, and review of incidents or events related to AI-enabled technologies.

• Advise business and clinical leaders on the responsible implementation of AI technologies in operational, research, and patient-facing areas.

• Counsel on compliant strategies for data commercialization and monetization.

• Assume additional practice focus areas as needed or based on specific experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) years of practice in a law firm or in-house legal department within one or more specified practice areas is required.

• Experience in drafting and negotiating contracts is essential.

• Juris Doctorate (JD) degree is mandatory.

• High ethical standards and integrity are required.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment is required.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.

• Strong analytical skills are required.

• Ability to prioritize and manage a diverse and ever-changing workload in a fast-paced environment is essential.

• Must hold a license to practice law in good standing in Nebraska; alternatively, a license in good standing in at least one other state with the willingness and eligibility to obtain a Nebraska license within six months of hire is acceptable.

• Preferred: experience in compliance, data security, employment, financial services, governance, information technology, insurance, intellectual property, litigation, pharmacy, privacy, real estate, and trademark.

• Experience advising academic health systems is preferred.
