This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Support the Director of Policy and the Vice President for Policy & Government Affairs in formulating and executing the state policy agenda.
• Collaborate with senior management on the development of state policy agendas, emphasizing community-centered initiatives.
• Conduct and coordinate assessments of both state and federal legislative and regulatory proposals.
• Keep track of state policy trends and developments.
• Coordinate processes to ensure that state perspectives are included in federal policy priorities.
• Develop and align program-specific and issue-specific policy objectives and technical assistance strategies with the Programs team.
• Assess the progress of policy and technical assistance initiatives over time.
• Cultivate and maintain expertise in key health policy domains.
• Act as an advisor and thought leader on both state and federal policy matters.
• Enhance engagement of local community organizations around health-related issues.
• Establish collaborative partnerships with state policy advocates.
• Create issue briefs, blogs, and various educational resources in collaboration with the Communications team.
• Build and sustain strategic relationships with policymakers, funders, and organizations at the state, national, and community levels.
• Represent the organization in external settings.
• Assist with fundraising efforts through strategy development, outreach to funders and donors, stewardship, proposal writing, and reporting.
• Potentially oversee Policy Associates, Policy Analysts, or seasonal interns.
• Execute other duties necessary to accomplish the goals of the policy team and the organization.
• A Bachelor’s degree along with a minimum of 8 years of pertinent work experience in health policy, or a combination of relevant higher education and years of legal and/or health policy work experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of health policy issues.
• Proficient in analyzing complex and interrelated health legislation, regulations, and policies.
• Understanding of the relationship between state political environments and the outcomes of advocacy and policy campaigns.
• Familiarity with state and federal policy landscapes, trends, and policymaking procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Willingness to travel approximately 3–5 times annually.
• Capability to manage multiple tasks with meticulous attention to detail.
• A strong commitment to health equity and racial justice, along with experience in social change activism.
• Outstanding organization, policy analysis, and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Proven ability to develop relationships effectively.
• Skills in collaboration, conflict management, and overall management.
• Ability to work independently and manage one’s time effectively.
• Preferred: A Master’s degree in public policy, public health, public administration, or a related discipline.
• Preferred: Experience in leading or supporting state-level policy campaigns.
• Preferred: Extensive knowledge of state Medicaid, Marketplace, and related programs and policies.
• Preferred: Experience engaging with state policymakers, legislators, and public program officials.
