This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +1 more state.
• Deliver comprehensive legal services to clients while fostering positive and confidential relationships through effective consultation and communication.
• Primarily assist the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute (HVTI) as research initiatives, global collaborations, and regulatory obligations grow.
• Enhance contract processing times and uphold competitiveness for high-value clinical trials.
• Decrease dependency on external counsel and guarantee timely patient access to groundbreaking treatments.
• Operate independently or under the mentorship of senior attorneys on various legal matters across the organization.
• Evaluate research agreements, encompassing clinical trial, collaboration, research service, data use, and grant agreements.
• Provide regulatory assistance for associated issues.
• Maintain knowledge and counsel department members on legal updates.
• Look for opportunities to ensure compliance.
• Respond promptly to inquiries for legal counsel.
• Identify and apply strategies to provide effective legal services.
• Collaborate and lead initiatives within the Law Department and across organizational projects and teams.
• Act as a dedicated attorney for HVTI, concentrating on research and clinical trial agreements.
• Review an estimated 200–400 contracts annually.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-approved law school.
• Two to five years of legal experience as an attorney and/or in a comparable legal specialty.
• Candidates with varying levels of experience in research contracting are encouraged to apply.
• Must be a member in good standing with the state bar or have the ability to join the state bar within a reasonable timeframe.
• Exercise independent judgment and discretion in providing legal services.
• Primary experience in reviewing contracts, such as research, general, or supply chain agreements.
• Capacity to take appropriate action in high-pressure situations.
• Experience with clinical research agreements is preferred.
• Regulatory experience, including familiarity with HIPAA, GDPR, and similar data privacy laws is preferred.
• General knowledge or experience related to FDA regulations is preferred.
• Prior involvement or understanding of human subject research and IRB processes is preferred.
• Ability to work in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Willingness to travel throughout the hospital system.
• Proficiency in operating a computer, audiovisual, and other office equipment.
• Strong communication skills for exchanging accurate information, including delivering training both in person and virtually.
• Must reside in Ohio or Florida.
• Compliance with the influenza prevention program, including annual vaccination or an approved exemption, is required.
• Remote work from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
