Associate Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Prepare and review pleadings, motions, and various litigation-related documents in matters of product liability or complex litigation.

• Draft, analyze, and respond to written discovery while managing the discovery process with multiple parties.

• Formulate case strategies, defenses, and trial themes with increasing independence.

• Conduct research and analyze both state and federal case law, statutes, and regulatory frameworks.

• Interview, prepare, and collaborate with fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and corporate representatives.

• Take and defend depositions of lay witnesses, experts, and corporate representatives.

• Argue motions and participate in court appearances under appropriate supervision.

• Prepare pretrial reports and assist in case evaluations, exposure analysis, and risk assessments.

• Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, status conferences, and hearings.

• Contribute to innovative problem-solving and strategic planning for case resolution.

• Assist in settlement negotiations with plaintiffs and opposing counsel.

• Establish and maintain strong client relationships through professional, responsive, and inclusive communication.

• Collaborate with and provide supervision to paralegals and litigation support staff.

• Support Shareholders, Partners, and Senior Counsel on complex litigation matters.

• Meet annual billable hour targets and adhere to firm timekeeping policies.

• Engage in business development, networking, and client-facing opportunities.

• Participate in bar associations, professional organizations, and community engagement.

• Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by Management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

• Admission to practice in California is mandatory.

• 0–7 years of litigation experience, ideally in areas such as product liability, toxic tort, environmental, insurance defense, construction, or complex civil litigation.

• Previous experience as a paralegal, or in judicial clerkships, internships, clinics, or externships will be taken into account.

• Experience in a billable-hour law firm setting is preferred.

• Proven interest in complex litigation with a willingness to develop subject-matter expertise.

• Strong client-service focus and ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally.

• Self-driven, organized, and adept at managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Capability to work collaboratively across teams and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail.

• Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with FileVine or other document management systems is advantageous.
