Associate Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Prepare and assess pleadings, motions, and other documents related to litigation in product liability or complex litigation cases.

• Conduct, review, and respond to written discovery while managing document exchanges with various parties.

• Formulate case strategies, defenses, and trial themes with increasing independence.

• Investigate and evaluate state and federal case law, statutes, and regulatory frameworks.

• Conduct interviews and collaborate with fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and corporate representatives.

• Take and defend depositions from lay witnesses, experts, and corporate representatives.

• Present motions and engage in court appearances under appropriate oversight.

• Draft pretrial reports and assist with case assessments, exposure evaluations, and risk analyses.

• Engage in mediations, settlement discussions, status conferences, and hearings.

• Contribute to innovative problem-solving and strategic planning for case resolution.

• Assist in settlement discussions with plaintiffs and opposing counsel.

• Establish and maintain strong client relationships through prompt oral and written communication.

• Collaborate with and provide guidance to paralegals and litigation support staff.

• Assist Shareholders, Partners, and Senior Counsel on complex litigation matters.

• Achieve annual billable hour targets and adhere to the firm’s timekeeping policies.

• Engage in business development, networking, and client-facing initiatives.

• Participate in bar associations, professional organizations, and community engagement.

• Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.

• Execute additional duties as assigned by Management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a recognized law school.

• Admission to practice law in California is mandatory.

• 0–7 years of litigation experience, ideally in product liability, toxic tort, environmental, insurance defense, construction, or complex civil litigation.

• Previous experience as a paralegal, judicial clerk, intern, or in clinics or externships will be considered.

• Experience in a billable-hour law firm setting is preferred.

• Proven interest in complex litigation and a willingness to develop subject-matter expertise.

• Strong orientation towards client service, with clear, respectful, and professional communication with a diverse range of clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

• Self-motivated, organized, and adept at managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with teams and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.

• Capacity to perform well under pressure while maintaining professionalism.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with FileVine or other document management systems is a plus.
